History Sunday: Cady Cemetery Tour

NOTE: Meet at the church to carpool to the event.

The cemetery began when Ezekiel and Adaline Cady buried their son, Wilbert, on a knoll behind the orchard on their farm in 1841. The Cadys and most of the early Deer Grove settlers had only been here a few years and there was no church building and no cemetery. Other nearby settlers added the graves of their dead to Wilbert’s as time went on. In 1856, Ezekiel and Adaline Cady deeded the land the cemetery was on to the Palatine Township trustees and their successors. Cady is the first cemetery to come under the township’s care.

History Sunday: Church History Potluck

In 1835, in a one-room log cabin, located three miles west of Palatine, the Cady family was joined by a dozen or so neighbors to worship God in this pioneer community. The First United Methodist Church in Palatine opened its doors in 1857, just two years after the Village of Palatine was laid out by surveyor Joel Wood, and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2007.

History Sunday: Clayson House Tour & Social

NOTE: Meet at the church to carpool to the event.

The Clayson House was constructed as a residence in 1873 by George Clayson, a nurseryman who served on the Palatine Village Board. The property was purchased by the Palatine Public Library in 1976 and has been maintained and operated since then as a museum by the Palatine Park District. It is the home of the Palatine Historical Society. Its restoration was undertaken as a bicentennial project by the citizens of Palatine Township and the Palatine Historical Society. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 21, 1979 and opened to the public on October 7, 1979.
